WKV's Turgo turbines are ideally suited for applications at the boundary of the ranges between Francis and Pelton turbines. They are used primarily for application with medium to high heads ranging from 30 m to 300 m. Like a Pelton, a Turgo turbine has a flat efficiency curve and provides excellent part-load efficiencies. Their design is based on WKV's own improved technology developed and optimized in its own test facility. (Click on diagram to enlarge)
As an impulse turbine it is less sensitive to water laden with silt and other entrained matter.
It is the preferred type for applications with highly variable flows and water with a significant amount of entrained matter.
In terms of their specific speed they fit between the Francis and the Pelton turbine. They are well suited for applications where a multi-jet Pelton or a slow running Francis turbine might otherwise be used. The jet deflectors provide outstanding dynamic performance, even with rather long penstocks.
WKV's standard line of Turgo turbine is available with 1 or 2 nozzles and a capacity up to 5000 kW.
